New Mobility

Our research will contribute to the integration of new concepts into existing systems and optimizing individual components. The focus is on new vehicle concepts as well as their drive systems. The efficient storage and retrieval of available energy plays a crucial role: we research and test new energy storage systems and their potential applications.

The demand for flexible and decentralized energy solutions is growing. Whether in isolated regions, for temporary applications, or as a supplement to the grid, battery-electric systems and hydrogen offer the opportunity to rethink energy – clean, mobile, and independent.

Battery electric systems

The future of mobility already has many facets: whether new vehicle concepts, ideas for intermodal connections of different modes of transport or the use of different energy sources – all ideas aim for an efficient and environmentally friendly form of transport.

micromobility

The ICM has been researching and holistically implementing mobile concepts in the micromobility spectrum for years. The focus of these studies is primarily on resource-efficient use of raw materials, sustainability, and vehicle longevity. For electrified mobility in urban areas, the INNVELO® vehicle brand was created within a corporate network in 2009. This company develops two-, three-, and four-wheeled vehicle concepts and tailors them specifically to user requirements depending on the application.

"Flexible hydrogen solutions for an independent energy supply"

We develop modular hydrogen-based energy storage solutions – for locations without access to the power grid and for future infrastructures. Our focus is on portable and stationary systems that enable a decentralized and independent energy supply.

We're thinking ahead: As part of the energy transition, widespread access to hydrogen will also become increasingly important. Our research lays the foundation for adaptable subsystems that can be flexibly integrated into various applications and scenarios.

Fuel cell drives

The requirements for vehicles with conventional drive systems are becoming increasingly stringent in order to continue meeting the German government's climate policy goals in the future. Due to the accelerated transformation in mobility, the electrification of vehicles is rapidly gaining importance.

Alternative drive concepts for fuel cell-based powertrains are the focus of our research. We aim to make a decisive contribution to global decarbonization.

Construction and mining machinery

Alternative drive systems have been in use in construction and mining equipment for some time. The use of hydrogen as an energy source, in particular, requires the further development of various components to enable use under extreme loads and conditions. We are currently involved in the development of a hydrogen-powered prototype vehicle that will be tested under the harsh environmental conditions of construction and mining scenarios.

Intralogistics

Battery-electric transport systems are already standard in intralogistics. However, the use of hydrogen as an energy source can further optimize these systems, particularly with regard to the availability of battery-powered transport systems in autonomous 24/7 operation.
